Welcome to Jackson County, Georgia, created from Franklin County in 1796.  Please help your fellow researchers by contributing information about your family or community. If you have any questions, comments, or material to share, please e-mail me.  I will  be adding newspaper articles about Jackson County and its residents to the News page.

I recently visited the Jackson County Historic Archives, located in the beautiful old courthouse at 85 Washington Street in Jefferson.  In five minutes I found the solution to a longstanding family mystery.  Now, partly that was just good luck, but you will be amazed at the many useful and interesting records and other materials contained in this facility.  The staff is knowledgeable and helpful.  Be sure to check out their website and plan a visit soon.  One update that’s not on their website yet – they now have lockers for storing your personal items while you are researching.  I hope to visit again soon, and I hope to meet you there!

Many thanks to former coordinators Pattie Causey and Dawn Watson for their work with this site.
